Oddities and Collections!

As a scavenger at heart, I find myself often picking up cool Nature Bits. I especially like finding bones and insects! I collect bones, particularly skulls which I find useful for drawing reference or just as cool home decor. I sometimes mount them on wood rounds to put on my 'gallery wall'.

I also pin insects, and while I have purchased many from reputable online sellers, I am finding I like finding and collecting already dead insects more! It's interesting to see my local minibeasts up close!

In every situation of collecting, remember to source ethically! I personally don't like killing insects just to have as a trophy, so the insects you see here have been found dead and the natural weathering of life on them is reflective of that.

Feel free to use these images as drawing reference, and contact me if you'd like different angles!

Magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen)/Kurraka

A very lucky find, bird bones are (in my experience) some of the trickiest to find! This skull was already mostly clean, and one of my favourites for drawing. Magpies have such a beautiful song, and are incredibly easy to befriend.

Bird of Prey (it is a mystery!)

I got this skull as a gift from a friend, and so don't know what species it is. From the size, it could be a Nankeen Kestrel, or a Peregrine Falcon. The eyes sockets are massive, and the underside is incredibly delicate.
