A Psalm for the Wild Built - Becky Chambers
Rating: ★★★★★

I've read this book twice (once as an audio book) and both times have been when I needed it the most. Originally, this book was recommended to me by a friend after hearing me lament the "state of the world". This book is a warm cup of tea, an embrace from a friend, a gentle but firm conversation that says if you want the world to be better, you have to put in the work too. I recommend it to anyone who needs a break (as the dedication in the book does) and a bit of hope.

A Prayer for the Crown-Shy - Becky Chambers
Rating: ★★★★★

The sequal to the last book, with the same cosy feeling. Both of these books helped me feel less alone with the feeling of 'what is my purpose' that I often get. If you like slice-of-life books, especially with nonbinary rep, give them a go!

Field Guide for the Formerly Villianous - Autumn K. England
Rating: ★★★★★

This book actually inspired me to make this book rec page! I listened to the audiobook for this, and while I found it slow to begin with, I really ended up enjoying it. It feels like playing Stardew Valley and getting to know the town and townsfolk. Very slice-of-life, but touches on subjects of PTSD and trauma. Lots of queer rep, and honestly just made me want to hang out at a tavern with my friends after a long day of harvesting vegetables. Delicious.

Hollow Kingdom - Kira Jane Buxton
Rating: ★★★★★

I read this book several months ago and I still think about it often. A book about a domesticated crow, a dog, and an apocalypse. I loved how this book was written, with indivudual chapters from various animals written in their own unique style ("voice"?), and a look at what happens to animals when all the humans are dead (or... undead?). Changed the way I spend my time also, and where I focus my attention. A very unique book!

Root Rot - Saskia Nislow
Rating: ★★★★

A hazy, disorientating horror. I listened to the audiobook, which I finished in one day. It dragged me in and kept me guessing. I love an unreliable narrator, and this has it in spades. Told from the perspective of nine children (nameless, but called titles: "The Liar", "The Crybaby" etc.), this book was a great ecological horror, with a fungal theme. I still don't know what fully happened, but I enjoyed it!
